Aksaray University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering organized an orientation training for students joining us in the 2026–2027 Academic Year. The aim of the program was to allow our students to closely get to know the department, academic staff, and educational processes, as well as to help them make a solid start in the civil engineering profession.
The first part of the training was held in the classroom. Department Head Prof. Dr. Fatih Kürşat FIRAT provided students with information regarding the department's educational structure, curriculum, sub-disciplines, and the practical application areas of civil engineering. Prof. Dr. Fatih Kürşat FIRAT also answered the students' questions while addressing academic matters and professional development opportunities they might encounter throughout their studies.
In the second part of the program, our students visited the department's laboratories accompanied by Prof. Dr. Fatih Kürşat FIRAT, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin KARA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükran TANRIVERDİ, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can ERENSON. In the Structural Laboratory, it was explained how the behavior of structural materials and load-bearing elements is experimentally analyzed. In the Transportation Laboratory, experimental studies on highway and pavement materials were introduced. In the Geotechnical Laboratory, information was given about experimental setups for determining the physical and mechanical properties of soils. Our students had the opportunity to observe firsthand how the theoretical knowledge they will learn in lectures is put into practice in the laboratory.
